*Optigen is a genetic test available in some breeds including Labradors. A blood sample is sent to the appropriate laboratory and here is examined for the actual gene that causes PRA-prcd. This is a blinding eye defect that in worst case scenario causes not only blindness but lost of an eye(s). It is carried as a recessive gene so by breeding a non-carrier to non-carrier or non-carrier to a carrier blind offspring ' never' occur. This test allows breeders to manage and eventually eliminate this defect without compromising other traits such as mental and physical soundness.

Highcaliber is a small hobby kennel, home to approximately ten Labradors at any given time. We are very serious about our commitment to producing winning Labradors of correct workability and temperament. Now on our seventh generation we continue to enjoy this wonderful breed.

All breeding stock is hip, elbows certified (either OVC and/or OFA), eyes ACVO and/or CERF'd annually. Also we use Optigen tested or status known by parentage breeding stock to ensure that PRA-prcd will be a blinding defect of the past.

Our girls are selectively bred to top quality stud dogs of the breed, dogs with sound reputations for producing correct breed type, temperament, trainability and drive.
